Tim Bright, OneWorld Consulting Partner, presented at the EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) 25th Annual International Mentoring, Coaching and Supervision Conference in Dublin, Ireland. Tim's presentation is titled Coaching with Cultural Differences.
Tim shared his own observations having lived and worked in 6 different countries and having spent most of his life outside his home country. He talked about the importance of culture and looked at expert views on culture, particularly focusing on national cultural dimensions. He discussed how these dimensions can also be usefully applied to other forms of diversity. He made the point that intercultural competence is closely related to coaching competence and is something we should be helping our clients develop. Finally, Tim discussed how dominant Anglo Saxon cultural norms have shaped the coaching profession, and how these are being challenged and developed as coaching develops throughout the world.
