Tim and Asli argue that the time and money many organisations are spending on leadership development and on coaching is not getting the results they want. Their session examines why this is and what can be done differently. Working with the Anadolu Group, a diversified regional business based in Istanbul, employing 80,000 people, they have implemented a new approach to developing senior leaders. This is based on the insights that executives need to get more, good quality feedback, and have regular dialogue with their direct manager about their development. The traditional content materials of leadership development courses, once difficult and expensive to access are now widely and easily available. This programme provides leaders with access to world class materials, and focuses on engaging the leaders in a voluntary process of reflection, feedback and dialogue, driven by the executive themselves and supported by external coaches. It’s a simple model which other organisations can adopt for themselves, and Tim and Asli argue that it is significantly more effective than many leadership development and coaching programmes.
